The new Nordstrom Rack store in New York City

I always say here on the blog that, depending on your shopping goals, you do not necessarily have to go to an outlet – such as Jersey Gardens or Woodbury, see a post here – since New York has a lot of discount stores. If you’re not familiar with the term, it’s multi-brand stores that offer products with … discounts, of course. Think of them as a multi-brand outlet. If in the outlets, each brand has a store, in a discount store you will find a variety of brands – always famous names – in departments such as clothing, accessories, and footwear, with varying discounts – reach 70% compared to retail stores. Century 21 and TJ Maxx are just a few examples of these stores. But today, I want to talk about Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom Rack is Nordstrom’s discount store. Nordstrom is a department store – like Macy’s and Saks, and Nordstrom Rack is like the Nordstrom outlet.

Maybe a lot of people do not know, but Nordstrom Rack has two locations in Manhattan. One at Union Square and another, opened less than a year ago, at Herald Square. I believe that, because of the location in Union Square and perhaps not as well known as other discount stores, Nordstrom Rack went unnoticed by many people. Besides, that location is not very large. But Nordstrom Rack opened a huge store in Herald Square last year, practically on the side of Macy’s in one of the busiest areas of the city. I was there recently to check it out. I believe the new store has a convenient location – considering the subway access – and also a much better structure.

There are three floors. Right at the entrance, you will find the accessories department, with items such as handbags and sunglasses. There are Quay sunglasses from $25 and Rayban ones from $60. There’s a nice variety of handbags, with brands like Rebecca Minkoff and Kate Spade. In addition, there is a large space dedicated to footwear, all separated by size. There is also a section of beauty items, with interesting brands such as Urban Decay. There are makeup and many hair products at a discount!

There is an entire department dedicated to men’s fashion, with caps, socks, and underwear, as well as casual fashion, with jeans and T-shirts, and social fashion, with shirts, suits, and ties. There is another floor all dedicated to women’s fashion – with lingerie as well. I saw pieces from brands like Calvin Klein, Vince Camuto, Madewell, and 7 for all Mankind. There are dresses, blouses, skirts and shorts with remarked prices.

I really enjoyed the store and the selection of products. Nordstrom Rack has a website and you can browse it to get an idea of the mix of products and prices, as the stock of these stores varies according to the week! And, as I always say: in these stores you need to be patient to search!

Address: 865 6th Avenue.
