Brunch with a view: our experience at Asiate

Asiate was in my wishlist of places to check out in New York for a long time! It is located on the 35th floor of the Mandarin Oriental, a hotel located in Columbus Circle, a super charming area of the city, in an outstanding location, close to Central Park. You can imagine why this restaurant is so special, right? The view of the park, of course! Few places in the city have such a privileged view of Central Park, that is one of the postcards of New York. Last weekend we were there and I was looking forward to sharing the experience with you here on the blog. Asiate has already joined my list of recommendations for anyone looking for a special place in New York for breakfast, lunch, dinner or brunch.

Before I talk about the menus and our experience, I need to talk about the restaurant’s environment. The decor is beautiful and spotless. The restaurant has huge glass windows that, of course, reveal all the beauty of the southern part of Central Park, beyond the Columbus Circle area and 59th Street. The service is impeccable, too. I had read some posts and seen some photos of the place and chose to have brunch, just to enjoy the view during the day. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:45 am to 2 pm and has a fixed price of $64. In this amount, it is included: an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. Not included: drinks, taxes and gratuities.

Among the appetizer options, we chose Asparagus Soup and Tuna Tartar. In addition, there are also two varieties of salads. For the main course, I got the Cod and Thiago got Eggs Benedict (served with Canadian bacon, on a muffin). There are other classic dishes like waffle, omelet, and burger. For dessert, there are two options and we get one of each: crème Brulee and an apple cake with chocolate. Thiago said it was the best creme brulee he has ever eaten! Although the portions seemed small, everything was more than enough for us. Also, the dishes were very well prepared and delicious. We also had a glass of Mimosa each and Thiago also had black coffee.

For those who do not want to have brunch, it is worth remembering that there are other options:

  • Breakfast (served every day from 7 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.) –  they have egg dishes, which cost $25 on average, plus combos that include a plate + juice/ coffee/tea for $40 on average. Among the cheaper options, there are oats, granola, and avocado toast – prices from $15 to $30.
  • Lunch (served from Monday to Friday from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m., a la carte) – main courses range from  $32 to $36 – fish, burger, etc.
  • Dinner (served every day from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm) – fixed price of $ 95, with appetizer, main course, and dessert. There is also a Chef’s Tasting Menu, with 6 courses for $ 150.
